Galentine’s Day? Yep! Seriously! Our calendar is filled with silly holidays along with all those that are very special and important to us. We celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Memorial Day to mention a few of the more notable, highly celebrated holidays. Then, you may not know, we have already observed Humiliation Day (Jan. 3), Houseplant Day (Jan. 10), and Measure Your Feet Day (Jan. 23)! I can only ask, “Why?” I am open though, I am sure there’s a lot I do, that people ask, “why???”
I recently overheard of a holiday new to me! It sounded interesting and I couldn’t help but ask the women I was standing in line with, what “Galentine’s” was all about. “It’s new!” they said all at once, smiles and giggles threaded in.
That’s because it’s only about 10 years old…Galentine’s Day! Sounds fun but where did it begin or who got it going? It was started by Leslie Knope, played by Amy Poehler, in Parks and Rec, and occurs every year on Feb. 13, the day before Valentine’s Day. As Leslie, herself explains on the show, “Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like Lilith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”
Sounds fun, right? Let’s do it ladies…if fact,
